Objective

I am seeking an opportunity as a web developer where I can leverage my experience while continuing to further my knowledge of modern web technologies. I have an appreciation for clean aesthetics and strive to build intuitive interfaces.

Experience

Web Application Developer »

  • Collaborated with clients to design and maintain multiple Ruby on Rails web applications. Applications included central events calendars, staff directory, inventory tracking databases, and reporting dashboard.
  • Led a project to implement an enterprise wiki service. The wiki allowed for centralized collaboration and communication between departments on projects and enabled rapid development of support knowledge bases. Trained 25 groups on how to organize and manage their wiki content. Implemented a self-support model that allowed over 600 users to adopt the wiki within a year of launching without any significant support costs to the organization.
  • Collaborated with web designers and developers to author a five-year plan to ensure web accessibility for the 400 sites within the campus. Developed a reporting application to provide site owners with detailed analysis and recommendations for remediation.
  • Migrated the campus search engine to a Google Search Appliance in order to provide more relevant results and faster indexing. Worked with departments to optimize their web sites and content to improve findability.

Web Developer »

  • Worked with designers to turn Photoshop design compositions into XHTML and CSS for the campus portal. Overhauled XLS templates to generate clean, accessible, and web standards compliant markup to meet accessibility requirements.
  • Redesigned the interface for the campus single sign-on web application to create a clean, simple, and accessible means for authenticating.
  • Streamlined the process of distributing daily announcements and press releases from the public relations department. Created a publishing solution with the MovableType platform for syndicating content in multiple formats.
  • Researched and evaluated options to upgrade web-based e-mail for the student population. Integrated the campus single sign-on service into the Horde/IMP e-mail installation.

Help Desk Support »

  • Supported lab patrons with the use of Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop, lab printing, and assistive technology.
  • Trained students, faculty, and staff on the basic usage of Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and UNIX.
  • Provided phone support for student e-mail, the campus network, and WebCT for distance education users.
